You probably picked a microfiber couch because you have kids or pets, and the salesperson told you that it’s durable, impervious to staining and water. But since you have brought it home, you have discovered none of this is true. You tried to wash it with soap and water and discovered that it made the couch look much worse — and covered with dried water bands. Not to worry — you can make your stained microfiber couch appear fresh again by utilizing rubbing alcohol, some white sponges along with a plastic white-bristled brush.
Manufacturer’s Care Tag
Look for the manufacturer’s care tag beneath the couch or somewhere hidden but accessible. The care tag details the methods for cleaning the fabric, based on how it was made. For instance, if you discover that an “X,” on the care tag, you can only vacuum it. An “S” means a solvent-based cleaner; “W” stands for a water-based alternative; and “S-W” means either solvent or water-based solutions. Confirm this advice prior to proceeding. If you cannot locate the tag, it’s safer to assume that the microfiber fabric requires a solvent-based cleaner.
Vacuuming and Brushing
With a plastic bristle brush, loosen any dried crusty material from the sofa’s surface. Brushing also helps lift the nap to get rid of loose debris and dirt. Adhere to the brush cleaning with a thorough vacuuming. With a soft brush or upholstery attachment to your vacuum, remove all of the dirt and dust from the couch. Pick a hidden place on the couch to check the cleaning method needed by the company’s care tag. If you can use mild soap and water, then apply it to some stained areas and rub with a white sponge.
Rubbing Alcohol Method

Pour rubbing alcohol, vodka or gin to a spray bottle. Saturate the stained area with the solution, but don’t drench it with alcohol to avoid water rings. For really dirty and stained couches, repeat as required each day or 2.
The Brush Step
Following the couch has thoroughly dried, typically in around 15 to 20 minutes after using the rubbing alcohol, then go over the whole surface with a dry soft-bristle brush. Brush the cloth to soften it in areas where it has dried stiff. Brush the whole couch in multiple directions to make the nap stand up. Since microfiber frequently resembles the look of suede or brushed leather, dry-brushing it returns the like-new look to your couch again.
